Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the season.

The Belgian striker, who has scored 14 goals in 27 appearances this season for the Blues, will join Spurs until the end of the campaign.

Lukaku is expected to provide competition for Harry Kane up front and could also help Spurs challenge for silverware in the upcoming season.

The move comes after Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Manchester United's Edinson Cavani but ultimately decided against it.

The 28-year-old is known for his goal-scoring abilities and has won several awards throughout his career, including the Premier League Golden Boot in 2016-17.

He is also known for his work rate and physicality, which should be a good asset for Spurs' attacking play.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho has praised the signing, saying: "We're delighted to bring Romelu to Tottenham Hotspur. He's a world-class player who can score goals and create opportunities for us."

Lukaku will be hoping to make an impact straight away and help Spurs push for honours this season. The club will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing finish last season and Lukaku could be just what they need to turn things around.
