As the football season heats up across China, one club has set a new record for attendance at their home matches.

According to reports from the Chinese Football Association (CFA), over 150,000 fans packed into Beijing's Beihai Stadium on Sunday night for a match between Beijing Guoan and Guangzhou Evergrande. This marks the highest number of spectators in a single match since the CFA began keeping records in 2014.

The match was part of the opening round of the Chinese Super League, which saw both teams competing against each other in a bid to secure a place in the group stage. Despite the high attendance, neither team managed to win the game, with Beijing Guoan finishing as winners thanks to a late goal from substitute defender Wang Xinyu.

The match came just days after another match between two top-flight clubs ended in controversy, with Jiangsu Sainty and Shanghai SIPG playing out a draw that left the latter needing to rely on a penalty shootout victory to advance to the next round.

Despite the controversies surrounding the matches, the growing popularity of football in China is undeniable. The country's football league has been growing rapidly in recent years, with more and more fans tuning in to watch their favorite teams compete.

With stadiums like Beihai Stadium able to hold such large crowds, it's clear that the future looks bright for Chinese football. With continued investment in infrastructure and development, it's likely that we'll see even bigger attendances in the coming seasons.
