Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have announced that they will be switching their defensive strategy to a 5-4-1 formation ahead of the new season.

The French giants, who were crowned champions last term after a dominant run of form, have been accused of being too reliant on their attacking prowess and have now decided to make some changes to their team structure.

Under the previous manager, Mauricio Pochettino, PSG had played a more expansive style of football, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar providing the creativity needed to win games. However, this approach has come under scrutiny from many fans and critics alike, as it has led to the team conceding too many goals.

As such, the club's board has decided to switch to a more defensive-oriented setup, which will see them play a 5-4-1 formation. This means that there will be five defenders on the pitch at all times, with one central defender playing alongside three full-backs.

The move is expected to bring stability to the backline, as there will be fewer players chasing each other upfield, which should lead to less pressure on the defence. It also gives the midfielders more space to dictate the tempo of the game and create opportunities for the forwards.

In addition to the 5-4-1 formation, PSG have also appointed new coach Thomas Tuchel, who has experience managing teams like Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Tuchel is known for his tactical flexibility and ability to adapt to different systems, so he should be able to help the team find a balance between attacking and defensive play.

Overall, the switch to a 5-4-1 formation seems like a positive step forward for PSG. With the right combination of tactics and personnel, the team should be able to compete at the top level once again next season.
